NPQ, Spring 2001
BACK STORY: The world has become a melting pot of cultures. Few places exist that are purely ethnic or religious. Now, many of us live in hybrid cultures. This collage of identities does not only refer to society, but also within individuals. No longer can we seek a universal ideal in which everyone can agree. A peaceful future requires us to seek a new “Modus Vivendi,” or a practical compromise.
I gathered images of a variety of people and took pieces of each and collaged them together to make a new hybrid person. The type took a heavy weight typeface and meshed it together with a lighter version of the typeface, creating a new hybrid typeface.
